Our second Language Talk: KWLA podcast features host Laura Roché Youngworth discussing the Kentucky World Language Program Review with Jacque Van Houten, Jefferson County Public Schools World Language Consultant, and Alfonso de Torres Nunez, World Language Consultant for the KY Department of Education. They talk about the overall premise of the Program Review including its history, models of implementation, embedded concepts of global competency and 21st century skills, and the concept of Program Review as a tool for building capacity. Language Talk - Episode 1

Our first Language Talk podcast features host Laura Roche talking about the K-16 Collaboration Initiative with Jeanmarie Rouhier-Willoughby, Chair of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Kentucky. They talk about the goals of the Collaboration Initiative to create stronger bonds in the state among world language teachers of all levels (from K to higher ed). They introduce the centerpiece of the Collaboration Initiative, the new Outreach Clearinghouse. There teachers will find information on classroom/teaching resources, professional development support, and opportunities to participate in world language events at colleges and universities in the state. Campus and Community Invited to Celebrate Maslenitsa

The UK campus and Lexington community are invited to celebrate a different kind of Mardi Gras this year. Russian Mardi Gras, or Maslenitsa, is the Carnival holiday that celebrates the pre-Lenten season before the traditional 40-day fast begins.

College of Arts and Sciences Invites All to Reimagine Russia's Realms

The UK College of Arts and Sciences has launched the third chapter in its Passport to the World Initiative, opening doors for students to "reimagine Russia's realms."

Reimagining Russia's Realms: Karen Petrone & Jeanmarie Rouhier-Willoughby

Jeanmarie Rouhier-Willoughby is the Chair of the Department of Modern & Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures, and Karen Petrone is the Chair of the Department of History. They proposed the next stop on the Passport to the World. This year's focus is on China; for the 2012-2013 school year, Arts & Sciences will spend a year focusing on Russia and its neighbors. In this podcast, Petrone and Rouhier-Willoughby discuss what makes the region unique, why it is important to study, and what various departments and faculty will bring to UK to Reimagine Russia’s Realms. The Passport to the World initiative is sponsored by the A&S Advisory Board.
