Dan Howell
Senior Lecturer - English Department

I'm a Lexington native, but most of my life I've lived elsewhere, boxing the U.S. compass.

My collection of poems, Lost Country (Massachusetts), was the runner-up in 1994 for the Norma Farber First Book Award of the Poetry Society of America, and short-listed for the 1994 Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Poetry.  Other awards include a Writing Fellowship (Poetry) at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Tom McAfee Discovery Award (Missouri Review), and a citation for Notable Essay in Best American Essays 1993.   I’ve taught English and creative writing courses at a number of schools, including the University of Kentucky, Louisiana State University, Loyola University Chicago, UC-Irvine, Columbia College Chicago, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Northwestern University.
